Snake poi are spun like any other poi but they produce a completely different effect. Rather than a single long trail of flame as with standard poi, snake poi produce a much wider yet shorter trail and when spun fast the flames turn a beautiful shade of blue. This makes for great fire photos and adds variety to a poi spinning performance.
Our snakes are made with one inch rope, so they burn for approximately 2 minutes. They have much the same weight and feel as standard rolled head poi so don’t require additional skill to use.
We rate these poi as “intermediate to advanced” because we feel they are more dangerous than standard poi. This is because when lit, they produce a massive flame. Once the entire heads are on fire the poi must be kept moving. If you stop and hold the poi vertically you will burn your hands, as the top of the wick and your hands are in close proximity.
